Sensual Laboratories

My first encounter with Sophia was on screen. She was portraying Joan Hills of the Boyle Family—pioneering artists and innovators of the light show—in At Home with the Boyle Family, a documentary about their work. The film premiered at IKLECTIK in Lambeth, South London, and like all great film stars, Sophia was there for the occasion.

As a light show artist myself, I was eager to see how the film had turned out and to hear Sebastian Boyle’s insights on growing up in such a creative family. After the screening, Sophia approached me, and we struck up a conversation about the film and the world of light shows. That’s when she revealed she was working on a book about experimental film, liquid light shows, and psychedelic art.

Intrigued, I wanted to know more. Our discussions soon turned to the book cover, and we agreed to meet and brainstorm ideas. And so, our collaboration began. I was commissioned to create the artwork and design the layout for her forthcoming book, Sensual Laboratories – Light Shows, Experimental Film, and Psychedelic Art, which will be published by Strange Attractor Press.
